Understand Your Channel URLs

Your channel can have more than one URL that directs your audience to your channel homepage. These URLs can look different from one another, but all point your audience to the same place – your channel.

ID-based URL

Example: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUZ…………LcyJEQQ

This is the standard URL that YouTube channels use. It uses your unique channel ID, which is the numbers and letters at the end of the URL.

Custom URL

Example: https://www.youtube.com/c/You…reators

A custom URL is a shorter, easy-to-remember URL that you can share with your audience. These can be based on your current display name, legacy username, or your linked and verified web domain. You can check if you’ve claimed a custom URL in your basic info setting.

You can share a shorter version of your custom URL by removing “/c”, such as https://www.youtube.com/You…reators.

Legacy username URL

Example: https://www.youtube.com/user/partner support

Depending on when your channel was created, it may have a username. Usernames are no longer required for channels today, but you can still use this URL to direct to your channel — even if your channel name has changed since you chose your username. Existing usernames can’t be changed.

You can share a shorter version of your legacy username URL by removing “/user”, such as https://www.youtube.com/partnersupport.

This is not possible if another channel has claimed a custom URL with the same name.

Get a Custom Channel URL

A custom URL is an easy-to-remember channel URL that you can share with your audience. Your custom URL will display as https://www.youtube.com/yourcustomname or https://www.youtube.com/c/yourcustomname.

You can choose an available custom URL based on:

•    Display name
•    YouTube username
•    Current vanity URLs
•    Linked website name

When sharing your custom URL, you can use whatever capitalization and accents you’d like. For example, both https://www.youtube.com/c/yourcustomname and https://www.youtube.com/c/YourCustómNámé would send viewers to the same channel.

Custom URL eligibility

To create a custom URL for your channel, your account needs to:

•    Have 100 or more subscribers.
•    Be at least 30 days old.
•    Have an uploaded profile picture.
•    Have uploaded banner image.

Note: We reserve the right to change, reclaim, or remove custom URLs at any time. For example, we may reclaim a custom URL that was associated with a deleted Google account.

Set up a custom URL for your channel

If you’re eligible for a custom URL, you’ll see a notice in your basic info setting, get an email notification, and may see a notification in your Channel dashboard.

  • Sign in to YouTube Studio
  • From the left Menu, select Customization > Basic info
  • Under Channel URL, click Set a custom URL for your channel
  • In the box, you’ll see your custom URL. You can add extra letters or numbers to make your custom URL unique.
  • Click PUBLISH, then Click CONFIRM to confirm your custom URL.

Note: Once a custom URL has been set up, you can’t change it or transfer the URL to someone else.
